A very cool video of catching and processing the enormous geoduck clams on the California coast. The geoduck (pronounced gooey-duck) is one of the largest clam species. Although the Americans have not seen them on menus until fairly recently, they have been popular in Asia for decades, and a valuable food item for native populations for millennia.
As you can see, geoduck harvesting on this scale, takes a bit more special equipment than just a clamming fork. To my eyes the geoducks looks like the end result of a experiment with our local steamer clams. Either that or it proves Mother Nature has a dirty mind…
Really one of the least appetizing seafood, but still very interesting to see. 🙂
